Frequently Asked Questions dogs and cats
Are deer antlers really 100% natural?
The antlers sold on weltcroc.com are exclusively from the annual natural molt of wild deer.
They do not undergo any chemical treatment, no addition of preservatives or other substances. They are only collected, cleaned, cut, sanded and heated.
Resistance tests are carried out on the antlers to guarantee an irreproachable quality and density.
Where do the deer antlers sold on the site come from?
Deer antlers are exclusively collected in European forests where deer live in the wild. On weltcroc.com, no antlers come from farmed deer.
Why wild deer antlers?
Our priority is the well-being of the animals and the respect of the cycle of nature.
No animal is harmed for its antlers.
Deer lose their antlers each year between February and May naturally during the molt. The antlers then grow back until the end of the summer at a rate of one centimeter per day to reach their full development in September for the Rut period.
This is a natural process that punctuates the development and life of deer.
Can we give a deer antler to any type of dog?
The deer antlers are cut in different sizes to allow each size of dog to chew an antler to the size of his jaw.
We also offer for each size, two ranges of deer antlers to chew: the whole antler and the sliced antler to fit all temperaments of dogs, whether they are moderate chewers or ferocious destroyers.
As with any product or toy you give your dog, you must be careful to remove any leftovers that are too small for your dog to hold and chew. Because of its constitution, there is no risk of allergy.
Are all dogs interested in deer antlers?
The obvious brand guarantees AA+ quality antlers, which means antlers with fresh dry pith that maximizes your dog's attraction to deer antlers. But this is not enough.
You must adapt the antler to your dog's temperament. The antler may be greedy, but if your dog doesn't have the stamina and power to chew a whole antler, he'll dig in on both sides and get bored with it because he can't go any further
For these dogs, split deer antlers are best.
Are deer antlers only for dogs?
Some of our customers hang a piece in aviaries with large birds, for example.
The product being natural, it is a source of calcium and minerals. For rodents or birds, opt for tree roots !
What size should I get for my dog?
The choice of the size is essential for your dog to get all the pleasure and benefits of this new generation chew bone
But the most important thing is to choose the strength of the wood according to the temperament of the dog.
A ferocious chewer will not find enough strength in a split antler for example, and conversely a moderate chewer will not have the stamina or strength to chew a whole deer antler.
Please refer to the size guide and if in doubt, do not hesitate to contact us!
At what age should I give my dog a deer antler?
Ideally when the puppy has his adult teeth.
Deer antlers help relieve dental pain as your puppy's teeth grow, and provide the calcium and minerals needed for proper growth. For ease of use, opt for sliced deer antlers !
For puppies up to 3 months of age, choose a special deer antler for puppies, which, thanks to its special cut, will allow the puppy to have access to all the dry marrow without any chewing effort!
Whole deer antlers or sliced deer antlers, what should you choose?
Both provide your dog with the natural calcium and minerals needed for development. Chewing helps to loosen teeth while releasing endorphins that soothe your dog. The difference is more about your dog's temperament.
If your dog is used to trimming, if it is powerful, if it is tireless, prefer whole deer antlers for its resistance.
If, on the other hand, your dog is delicate, old or still a puppy, if it gets tired quickly because it is not used to trimming, opt for sliced deer antlers.
With the pith directly accessible, sliced deer antlers stimulate the dog more quickly and are easier to trim. It's also a good way to introduce him to antlers and then move on to whole deer antlers.
Length, diameter, shape, how to choose?
Every deer antler is unique in its shape, just as every dog is different. If your dog has joint problems, for example, choose an antler with a branch.
V or Y shaped antlers are easier to hold. For dogs with strong jaws, who are used to trimming, go for the diameter. Your dog will have to persevere longer to reach the pith in the center.
If on the other hand your dog is delicate, prefer flatter antlers, easier to trim and more tender. Some dogs are fierce eaters and the base of the wood seems to attract them even more for the smell of the pith which seems more pronounced in this part of the wood.
What is the difference between Catnip and Cat herbs?
Cat herbs are similar to a classic herb that you would grow for example. The cat eats it to purge.
Catnip is a variety of plants with euphoric properties for cats. The smell alone will provoke a stimulating reaction in your cat for 10-15 minutes. Totally natural, there is no risk or addiction. The catnip with a mint smell or the Valerian (much stronger smell) are the two plants you will find on the site.
Catnip or Valerian ?
Catnip and Valerian are two natural plants with stimulating effects on cats.
As each cat is unique, some cats are more sensitive to one than the other. The smell of these natural plants creates stimuli that awaken your cat's play instinct and puts him in a euphoric state for a few minutes. No danger, no risk of addiction.
Once the effects have worn off, the cat will completely abandon the toy loaded with catnip or valerian, for example, and return to it later.
Are tree roots suitable for all animals?
The tree root is a 100% natural product suitable for all sizes of dogs, from Chihuahua to Great Dane, but also for different rodents (from mice to rabbits) and birds (from parakeets to parrots). Simply adapt the size of the root to the size of your pet.
What are the benefits of tree root?
Like deer antlers, tree root acts like a natural toothbrush to loosen teeth or file birds' beaks. 100% natural, it is a source of natural vitamins and minerals essential to your pet's health. Without any treatment, the roots constitute a natural toy 100% vegetable durable and healthy
A little bonus: you can leave the root overnight in the bag of kibble, in a sauce or broth to flavor it as you wish. The dog will have the impression that he is being given something different to chew but it will still be the same flavored root !
Why are there no buffalo horns on the site?
The Évident brand is committed to strong principles of respect for nature and animal welfare. Unlike deer or fallow deer antlers that fall off naturally every year, buffalo horns do not fall off.
It is a part that grows throughout the life of the animal. The horns sold are mostly from water buffalo breeding in India, where the animal is sacred ...
Moreover, the horns can make splinters that are dangerous for dogs.
What is the difference between olive wood and coffee wood?
Both of these woods are slow-growing woods that offer strength and do not splinter. Olive wood comes from Europe, coffee wood from Africa.
If olive tree and coffee tree are quite similar on small sizes, the olive wood offers a much higher resistance on large sizes.
So we chose the olive tree and enriched it with natural olive oil to make them even more appetizing.
Is cheese good for dogs?
The obvious cheese sticks are manufactured according to the same iso standards as those required for human consumption products.
Thanks to the skimming phase and the 3 months of maturing process, only 4% of lactose remains. It is therefore a healthy and natural treat for dogs.
Is deer antler resistant to destructive dogs ?
Deer antlers have a proven track record of being resistant to the most ferocious chewers.
The choice of antler is of course essential in terms of density, diameter and shape.
Discover the maximum strength option in every size of whole deer antler!
Are deer antlers effective against tartar?
Rubbing the tooth against the antler acts like a dentist's drill and "sands" away the tartar layer.
For scaling to be effective, the dog must chew for a long time. It is therefore necessary to find the right balance between resistance and greed.
What are the benefits of chewing?
Every dog has a different need to chew.
It is an energy expenditure, a physical effort that is essential for your dog's good balance.
Some dogs only need to chew for a few minutes, others for hours. Some need very resistant material, others do not.
That's why the obvious brand offers natural chewing solutions with different strengths.
Is deer antler dangerous for dogs?
Some dogs just can't chew.
When there is resistance, instead of releasing and chewing, they will try to break what is in their mouth.
With a deer antler, what is certain is that it is the tooth that can break but not the antler.
But these dogs will break their teeth on rocks, pieces of iron, and anything else that gets under their teeth.
If your dog's teeth have already been filed down by everything he chews, there is no need to offer him deer antler, the resistance is too strong.
Why does deer antler soothe a dog?
Chewing is an essential need for all dogs, in proportions specific to each dog.
To get to the pith, the dog has to sit, hold the antler and "sand" it down little by little.
It is this throbbing work of chewing that releases endorphins and soothes your dog.
It is therefore necessary to choose a chewing solution that is strong and appealing enough to make your dog want to chew for a long time, according to his abilities.
Do not hesitate to contact us to help you choose!
Are there differences in antler quality?
As with any product, there are different qualities of deer antlers on the market and therefore different prices. The obvious brand has chosen to position itself on AA+ quality, the best on the market: the antlers come exclusively from the annual molt of wild deer, they are cut according to a guaranteed minimum length that allows each size of dog to maintain and chew its antlers for a long time. All the edges are sanded to preserve the gums, and we are the only brand to heat the antlers to guarantee sanitary safety.
There are different qualities:
- A Quality: DARK BROWN DEER WOOD
these are typically deer antlers that have fallen naturally from wild animals
AA or A+ : they do not bear any mark, no blow, collected at most a few months to a year after the molt, the dry pith is very colored, still loaded with nutrients and natural minerals.
A : small cuts or collected up to 2 years after the molt
- Grade B: WHITE/GREY DEER ANTLER
The antlers have been down for a year or two, they may be antlers from farmed animals that have not rubbed against bushes, trees and therefore have not given that color so typical of wild deer antlers. The B quality can also include antlers that have superficial cracks, which of course weaken the antler.
- C Quality : YELLOW DEER ANTLER, RUBBISHED HAMMER ...
The woods are rough, as if dried out, they have no density, are very light, the calcium layer is yellow and not white, the pith has no color, it is yellow and crumbly. Typically, it is wood that has fallen for more than 3 years, the wood can have deep cracks.
And for each category, there are levels of requirements on the finishes. The woods are cleaned, sanded or clean cut, heated or not, cut according to a minimum guaranteed length
What are the differences between wild and farmed wood?
Molting is a natural process that is governed by nature's cycle. The antlers grow and are first covered with a velvet that allows the wood to vascularize. Then the velvet falls off, and the wood can begin to soak up the natural nutrients and minerals present on the trees, bushes, etc.
This is the first visible difference, too.
The antlers from farmed deer remain grey, white, while the antlers from wild deer become dark brown.
Its gustatory and nutritional qualities are incomparable.
Farmed antlers are generally cut as needed, where wild antlers fall naturally once calcification has reached its end and has become as dense as possible before the testosterone literally drops and makes the antlers fall.
